Kyrgyzstan receives WHO award for contribution to tobacco control

Kyrgyzstan received an WHO award for outstanding contribution to tobacco control in the country. Press center of the Ministry of Health reported.

Every year WHO awards organizations and individuals who promote and enforce tobacco control measures in the WHO European Region.

This year the award was given to a number of organizations and individuals from six countries — Kyrgyzstan, Georgia, Spain, Switzerland, Ukraine and the UK.

Ex-deputy of the Parliament, Chairwoman of Ayaldar Keneshi Public Association in Kyrgyzstan Ainuru Altybaeva received the award.

The ministry recalled that Ainuru Altybaeva, while working in the Parliament, worked closely with the Ministry of Health and actively supported public health initiatives aimed at reducing tobacco use.

«Ainuru Altybaeva led a group of MPs in drafting the Tobacco Control Law, which was passed on September 15, 2021. This law is considered by national and international partners as a major victory for tobacco control in Kyrgyzstan,» the Ministry of Health reported.
