«Is it worth giving additional powers to the Eurasian Economic Commission? We in Kazakhstan proceed from the fact that we cannot get ahead of ourselves here, we need to work gradually,» President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said at the 1st Eurasian Economic Forum.

According to him, problematic issues arise sometimes in the Union, as well as in other organizations, be it the EU and other economic organizations. After all, each state sees its national interests in its own way, each insists on resolving the issues in a definite way. This is the normal state of affairs in every international organization, and especially in those organizations dealing with trade issues.

«The Eurasian Economic Commission is not a government; it is an executive body to which we have delegated powers. It seems to me that it is not worth dramatizing certain difficulties that arise in the process of integration development, including during the discussions that are taking place within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Commission. I repeat, it is a normal process,» Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said.

The President of Kazakhstan stressed that the republic remains a supporter of Eurasian integration on a business and pragmatic basis and will work with all the EAEU states.

The authorities of Kyrgyzstan have repeatedly proposed to expand the powers of the Eurasian Economic Commission. Official Bishkek believes that this will make it possible to more effectively remove the existing barriers in the Union.
