Suspect in creation of pyramid scheme in WhatsApp detained in Kyrgyzstan

A suspect in creation of a pyramid scheme was detained in Sokuluk district. The Main Internal Affairs Department of Chui region reported.

According to it, local residents contacted the police and told that some woman, Sonbubu, created WhatsApp groups for multi-level marketing (Almaz-Avto, Almaz, Products). She received a certain amount of money and did not return it.

A criminal case has been initiated under Article 221 «Creation of pyramid schemes» of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic. Law enforcement officers detained the 51-year-old suspect and placed her in a temporary detention facility. Investigators believe she created groups on the app and took money from citizens when they joined them. The detainee assured that each of them would receive up to $1,200.

At least 13 people have already filed a complaint with the police.
