A rally caused by the lack of clean water problem is held on Lenin square in Osh city. Mirlan Orozbaev, organizer of the protest, told 24.kg news agency.
About 20 people participate in the rally. They demand from the Cabinet of Ministers to allocate the money provided for solving the problem.
Earlier, a deputy of Parliament Taalaibek Sarybashov made a similar demand at the plenary session. «ADB’s $3 million clean water project has been ratified by the Parliament. The money is in the treasury. But I don’t understand, perhaps, this concerns someone’s interests, someone wants to appropriate the project. The money must be allocated as soon as possible, the residents of the southern capital are very worried. Enough is enough. The problem of clean water is very acute. As soon as it rains, drinking water is turned off,» he said.
The city authorities have repeatedly tried to solve the water supply issue, they raised money for this — both budgetary and credit. In 2008, the Capital Construction Department of the City Hall of the southern capital implemented the project «Under-channel water conduit». At least 24 million soms were allocated for it from the city budget. Due to the use of low-quality materials, the project failed. The second project involved the construction of a filtration gallery. ADB allocated $1.7 million for it. Its implementation also failed. The case is under litigation.
In the meantime, the city authorities made a third attempt to provide the Osh city residents with clean water. The next project provides for the transfer of water intake 2.2 kilometers upstream of the river, bypassing the mudflow hazardous area. The Asian Development Bank agreed to finance the project and allocated $3 million.
