Hearing of the criminal case against 15 former employees of the Customs Service is delayed in Bishkek City Court. Lawyer Mairambek Zhumabekov told 24.kg news agency.
According to him, Nurbek Aibashev, the former head of Severnaya customs, fled the country.
«The Oktyabrsky District Court chose punishment for all 15 defendants — a fine. All, except for the former deputy chairman of the State Customs Service, Zamirbek Niyazaliev, are at large. The latter is kept in the pretrial detention center 1 in Bishkek. It is not known what country Nurbek Aibashev flew to,» Mairambek Zhumabekov said.
Scandal broke out at Severnaya customs in 2018. At the end of May, employees of the State Service for Combating Economic Crimes detained its former chief Nurbek Aibashev. He was charged with abuse of office.
According to investigators, with the assistance of Nurbek Aibashev and other customs officials, the companies evaded duties and other due payments.
At least 15 people are involved in the case. They are charged with negligence and corruption.
