Sadyr Japarov comments on Kyrgyz-Tajik relations

«The border issue with Tajikistan has not been resolved,» the President of Kyrgyzstan said in an interview.

According to him, the Intergovernmental Commission on Delimitation and Demarcation of certain sections of the state border managed to agree on 600 kilometers.

«The issue of 600 kilometers has been resolved, about 300 kilometers remain. The issue is being resolved slowly. Not only our side is moving at a slow pace, these are both sides. The border issue, which could not be resolved for 30 years, cannot be resolved in a month. There are disputed areas. Both sides cannot put up fences until the disputed points are resolved. People who do not understand this say that it would be better to build a fence. As soon as the controversial points are resolved, the parties will begin to build a fence. Border posts will be open. Trade will begin. Relations with Tajikistan will be the same as they are with Uzbekistan now. I hope the relationship will continue as before,» he said.
