The sixth package of EU sanctions against Russia could be submitted for consideration by countries at the beginning of the week, it could include a partial ban on oil imports, disconnection of a number of banks from SWIFT. Interfax reports, citing Politico media outlet.
It is reported that the measures against oil imports are likely to vary depending on the type of oil and the method of delivery — by sea or through a pipeline. Brussels is also discussing the possibility of introducing a transition period to give EU countries time to prepare for any form of ban on oil imports from Russia.
The new package is expected to be presented for consideration on Monday, after which EU ambassadors will discuss it for a week and could probably pass it by Friday.
«Other Politico interlocutors are more cautious: They note that no decisions have yet been made at the European Commission on the time of consideration of the package. Sources believe that some kind of sanctions initiative can be expected early this week,» the statement says.
