Kyrgyzstan awards peacekeepers of CSTO mission in Kazakhstan

The Kyrgyz servicemen who took part in the peacekeeping operation in Kazakhstan have been awarded. Press service of the Ministry of Defense reported.

According to the ministry, members of the military unit 52806, who have successfully accomplished tasks to stabilize the situation in Kazakhstan as part of the CSTO peacekeeping forces, have been honored on April 9.

The Minister of Defense Baktybek Bekbolotov mentioned the high level of combat training and military discipline of the military personnel during the implementation of tasks within the CSTO peacekeeping forces in the neighboring republic.

In the solemn atmosphere, members of the peacekeeping contingent of the Kyrgyz Armed Forces were awarded valuable gifts on behalf of the head of state.

The mass protests in Kazakhstan began on January 2, 2022. Residents of Zhanaozen and Aktau in Mangistau region protested against an increase in the price of liquefied gas, then the protests spread to other regions.

At the request of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the CSTO states sent peacekeeping units to Kazakhstan. Kyrgyzstan sent a Scorpion special forces unit.

The military from Kyrgyzstan protected Almaty TPP-2.
