Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Edil Baisalov, as part of his working trip to Geneva (Switzerland), spoke at the closing of the Regional Forum on Sustainable Development for the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE). Press service of the Cabinet of Ministers reported.
Edil Baisalov spoke out against attempts to suspend participation of the Russian Federation in international organizations.
The Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet called on the delegations of 56 states of the Commission to preserve the historical mandate of the commission’s work as a bridge between East and West.
«In the exercise of my presidency, I would like to urge you to preserve and defend the unique role and mandate of the Economic Commission for Europe. Despite the tragic circumstances, the violent clash of positions of the parties and the high escalation of emotions, we must preserve the UNECE as a platform for dialogue and a bridge of cooperation. During the most difficult times of the past 75 years, our countries have valued the Organization’s special mandate. Limiting the participation of one of the key members of the commission will limit all of us, make us all poorer,» Edil Baisalov said.
The Economic Commission for Europe was established on March 28, 1947 to develop economic activity and strengthen economic ties within the region. The UNECE is one of five regional economic commissions of the United Nations and is headquartered in Geneva.
