Sadyr Japarov launches construction of Balykchy - Kochkor railway

President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov launched construction of Balykchy — Kochkor railway. Press service of the head of state reported.

The President noted that the construction of Balykchy — Kochkor railway will create the basis for a new railway junction, which will be of great importance for the future of the country.

«After the collapse of the Soviet Union, proclamation of Kyrgyzstan as an independent state and creation of Kyrgyz Temir Zholu enterprise, not a single kilometer of a new railway was laid. Therefore, I am happy to congratulate all of you on entering a new stage in the development of the railway industry,» Sadyr Japarov said.

He also said that Kyrgyz Temir Zholu state enterprise is now working on the implementation of the project on the construction of Balykchy — Kochkor — Kara-Keche railway line. The first stage of the project is laying the 63-kilometer Balykchy — Kochkor section.

Sadyr Japarov stressed that the coal currently mined at the Kara-Keche deposit is delivered by road to the station in Balykchy, and then sent by rail to Bishkek and other settlements in the north of the country. This significantly increases the cost of solid fuel. In addition, heavy vehicles driving from Kara-Keche destroy the road.

«Therefore, construction of the railway from Balykchy station to the coal mine will be economically very beneficial for people and the country. Implementation of this project will allow us to deliver coal from Kara-Keche in the cheapest way, primarily to supply the population of Bishkek and the capital’s thermal power plant. Construction of a new railway will also solve a number of issues, such as the development of industrial enterprises, boosting of economy, opening of transport links to our regions and strengthening the integrity of the country as a whole,» Sadyr Japarov concluded.
