Specialists of the Ministry of Health of Kyrgyzstan and Kyrgyzhydrometcenter discussed measures to reduce the impact of air pollution on public health. The Republican Center for Health Promotion (RCHP) reported.

According to its data, experts noted that the state of the environment has a direct impact on the health of the population. «The most characteristic, officially registered reactions to the harmful effects of the environment are, in particular, diseases of the respiratory organs, organs of vision, nervous system, diseases of blood and circulatory organs, congenital malformations and malignant neoplasms, poisonings,» the center noted.

The Ministry of Health conducted an analysis of the morbidity of the population in Bishkek for 2018-2020.

In 2018-2019, there was an increase in morbidity among children under 14 years old: allergic rhinitis — 2.1 times, bronchial asthma — 1.7 times. The number of neoplasms increased 1.1 times among the adults, allergic rhinitis — 2.2 times, chronic pharyngitis — 1.03 times, incidence of respiratory diseases increased 1.3 times.

In 2020, there was a decrease in the detection of diseases among children and adults in Bishkek. The center suggested that this may be due to the epidemiological situation, as some health care organizations were functioning in the red zone mode, the rest were admitting emergency patients only.

«The Ministry of Health holds meetings with donor organizations for assistance in health monitoring due to air pollution. It is planned to consider conducting a research on development of an air pollution quality index by color index and analysis of health indicators of the population on the example of pilot territories — Bishkek, Alamedin and Sokuluk districts of Chui region. The results will be used to develop an algorithm for prevention of diseases associated with air pollution,» the center noted.
