Murder of two-year-old girl: Convict in jail, but granted amnesty

A stepfather convicted of murder of a two-year-old girl, whose term was reduced due to amnesty, is still in prison. Lawyers of Spravedlivoist (Justice) human rights organization told 24.kg news agency.

According to them, the Jalal-Abad Regional Court sentenced the 36-year-old resident of Suzak district to 10 years in prison under Article 138 of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic «Causing serious harm to health which resulted in death by negligence» with the sentence to be served in a high-security penal colony. The sentence was reduced by one-third due to amnesty.

«But he is still in prison. As soon as he does the term, he will be free,» human rights activists stressed.

The court of first instance convicted the stepfather of the murdered girl under Article 135 of the Criminal Code «Causing death by negligence» — to 4.5 years in prison. The Jalal-Abad Regional Court overturned the sentence of the Suzak District Court and issued a verdict of 10 years in prison.

The two-year-old girl was killed in Suzak district in March 2019. Charges were brought against the child’s stepfather and mother. The District Court sentenced the mother to 7.5 years in prison in November 2019. Later, in January 2020, execution of the sentence was postponed due to pregnancy of the woman — until the newborn reaches the age of 14. The stepfather was amnestied.
