The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan held a meeting within the framework of the meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (CMFA OIC), which was held in Islamabad (Pakistan). Press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.
According to it, Ruslan Kazakbaev and Sirojiddin Mukhriddin exchanged views on organizing high-level events in the near future, and also stressed the need to hold meetings at the level of heads of the competent authorities of the two countries.
They stressed the importance of continuing meetings of the topographic working groups on the delimitation and demarcation of the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border. In addition, the parties discussed issues of international and regional security, including the situation in Ukraine.
The length of the Kyrgyz-Tajik border is 970 kilometers, 519 kilometers of which have been specified. According to the latest data, an agreement has been reached on another 81 kilometers. The sections between Batken region of Kyrgyzstan and Sughd region of Tajikistan remain disputed, where villages, and sometimes even houses of the residents of the two republics are located too close to each other, which makes it much more difficult to determine the border line.
