Russian PM is asked to ban work for taxi service with foreign driver's licenses

The head of the Human Rights Council (HRC) under the President of the Russian Federation Valery Fadeev sent an appeal to the Prime Minister of Russia Mikhail Mishustin with a request to ban taxi drivers from using driver’s licenses of a foreign country. RIA Novosti reports.

The decision was made during a special meeting of the HRC, at which «the issue of migrants in the taxi industry was raised.» This allegedly will not prevent foreigners from driving and will not be applied to drivers employed in cargo transportation and bus services.

The head of the HRC believes that it is necessary to provide for a transitional period when taxi drivers can be trained in a Russian driving school and receive a Russian driver’s license.

Since the summer of 2021 it is possible to work for a taxi service in Moscow, if you have a Russian or Kyrgyz driver’s license. Taxi drivers with the driver’s licenses of those countries where Russian is the official language are also allowed to work. It is still unknown whether this rule is to be abolished.
