There is no reliable data on gross emissions in Kyrgystan, First Deputy Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision Kanatbek Sadykov said at the first Central Asian Conference on Air Quality.
He explained that to date the private sector — homes, saunas and bathhouses — is not covered by legislation and is not regulated. Stationary sources emit about 60,000 tons of hazardous substances annually.
At the same time, according to him, many facilities run entirely on coal, while cleaning is carried out only from solid particles, there is no emission control system.
«The increase in transport is also becoming a serious problem. At the same time, far from new cars are imported into the country. There are about 400,000 cars registered in Bishkek alone now,» he said.
Kanatbek Sadykov added that improvement of air quality becomes the most important task of the state in Kyrgyzstan.
