Conflict in Ukraine: U.S. bans Russian oil and gas imports

U.S. President Joe Biden has announced a ban on imports of Russian oil and gas. Meduza reports, citing Sky News.

In a statement, Biden said the decision was made in close cooperation with U.S. allies. According to the president, Washington understands that European countries cannot take similar steps due to their dependence on Russian energy resources.

Biden also warned the U.S. consumers that gasoline prices would continue to rise because of it.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said shortly after Biden’s speech that London would refuse to import oil and gas from Russia until the end of 2022. Earlier, Canada announced a ban on imports of Russian oil.

The hostilities in Ukraine are ongoing. Russia started a special military operation on February 24, 2022. The number of military and civilian casualties continues to grow. Many countries have imposed and continue to impose severe sanctions against Russia.
