The UK authorities plan to house refugees from Ukraine in the seized mansions of Russian oligarchs, Deputy Prime Minister Dominic Raab told The Times.
He said the government would legislate to stop «lawfare», where kleptocrats use the courts to try to stop journalists reporting on how they obtained their wealth. Raab said that the government would offer proposals «very shortly» to stop oligarchs hiring expensive law firms to protect their fortunes.
«We have seen oligarchs and kleptocrats and those with links to Putin coming into this country and suing under our libel laws,» he said.
Today is the 10th day of fighting in Ukraine. On February 24, 2022, the Russian President Vladimir Putin announced start of a special military operation. It was regarded in Ukraine and in the West as a full-scale invasion.
Second round of Russian-Ukrainian talks took place on March 3, 2022. The parties agreed on providing humanitarian aid to the population.
