It was proposed to rename Nur Otan party into Amanat, Tengrinews.kz reports.
According to the news agency, the proposal was voiced at an extraordinary congress of the party by Majilis Chairman Yerlan Koshanov.
«Our party is at the center of the changes taking place in the country. Frankly speaking, a renewal of the party is required along with the country. In order to give new meaning to the organization’s activities, necessary changes should be made. In this regard, we believe it is right to change the nature and name of the party. We believe that the ruling party of Kazakhstan should be named Amanat as a tribute to our ancestors. We propose renaming the party into Amanat at today’s congress,» he said.
Nur Otan Chairman Kassym-Jomart Tokayev supported the proposal to rename the party.
«The word ’amanat’ means the covenant of the ancestors, instructions to future generations. Amanat is a deep notion with special symbolism in the culture of our people. It means the eternal ideals of independence, values of strong statehood and national unity, and the vast expanses of our land, which our ancestors bequeathed to us. We must preserve and strengthen this invaluable legacy. This is our sacred duty between the past and future generations», Tokayev said.
At the same time, he said, party members should not forget its real merits in the past.
«This means that we must remember with gratitude the work of all the dedicated activists of the party,» Kassym-Jomart Tokayev added.
As a result, congress delegates voted for renaming the party, RIA Novosti reported.
In November 2021, during an expanded meeting of the Political Council, Nursultan Nazarbayev decided to transfer the powers of the Chairman of Nur Otan party. He stressed that the party should be headed by the president of the country. Tokayev was elected Chairman of Nur Otan party on January 28.
