Luc Tardif to visit Bishkek during Ice Hockey World Championship

The head of the International Ice Hockey Federation Luc Tardif accepted the invitation of the Vice President Aivaz Omorkanov to visit Bishkek during the World Ice Hockey Championship. The National Olympic Committee of Kyrgyzstan (NOC) reported.

The meeting between the president and the vice president of the International Federation took place in Beijing, where the Winter Olympic Games are held.

«Aivaz Omorkanov is in Beijing and is performing the duties of the Vice President of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) in charge of Asia and Oceania. Bishkek is scheduled to host the World Ice Hockey Championship of the fourth division in March. Aivaz Omorkanov told Luc Tardif that preparations for it are in full swing; if necessary, the NOC will assist the Ice Hockey Federation of the Kyrgyz Republic in organizing the championship. He also thanked the head of the IIHF for supporting the development of the sport in the republic,» the statement says.

Luc Tardif expressed confidence that the Kyrgyz hockey has a great future. He said he accepted the invitation of Aivaz Omorkanov to come to Bishkek to attend the world championship.

The former player of the national team Aivaz Omorkanov became the Vice President of the International Ice Hockey Federation for Asia and Oceania last year. He succeeded not only in sports, but also received a bachelor’s degree in law at the Kyrgyz National University named after Jusup Balasagyn and a master’s degree in international relations at the Diplomatic Academy under the Foreign Affairs Ministry. He is fluent in English, Chinese, Russian and Kyrgyz.
