Jewelers of Kyrgyzstan ask the Cabinet of Ministers to withdraw the bill on precious metals for its revision and discussion with experts and the business community. President of Union of Jewelers and Entrepreneurs of Kyrgyzstan Stalbek Akmatov announced at today’s press conference.
According to him, the bill was developed back in 2016 by Department of Precious Metals under the Ministry of Finance. But it was considered only in January 2022. Entrepreneurs believe that the document is outdated and does not contain regulations for the development of the jewelry industry in the country.
«The background statement to the bill says that it is designed to increase the production of jewelry in Kyrgyzstan. But in reality, there are no such norms in it. In fact, the bill only extends the powers of the Department of Precious Metals,» Stalbek Akmatov said.
He also drew attention to the need to ensure access to raw materials for domestic jewelers. Business believes that the possibility to buy gold mined in the country at market price should be stipulated by the law.
