The share of the non-observed (hidden and informal) economy in Kyrgyzstan, estimated from the production side, in 2020 amounted to almost 125 billion soms, or 20.8 percent of GDP. The National Statistical Committee of the republic provided such data.
Due to restrictions related to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the share of the non-observed economy in 2020 decreased by 2.7 percent compared to 2019. The decrease is due to reduction in wholesale and retail trade, car and motorcycle repairs (by 2.6 percent), hotels and restaurants (by 0.5 percent), as well as other activities (by 0.2 percent).
«Compared to 2016, the share of the non-observed economy in 2020 decreased by 3.7 percent. This is due to a reduction in its share in the wholesale and retail trade (by 3.5 percent),» the National Statistical Committee said.
