Taliban urges Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan to resolve problems through dialogue

The Foreign Affairs Ministry of Taliban movement expressed regret for the casualties in the Tajik-Kyrgyz conflict and called on the sides «to solve their problems through dialogue». Radio Ozodi reports citing the website of the movement.

This is already the second statement made by the Taliban on border tensions between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. The first was made in June 2021, when the Taliban themselves were engaged in fierce fighting with government troops in Afghanistan. At that time, they called on the states «to solve their problems through dialogue and to find a logical solution that would benefit the both countries.»

On January 27 at 6.15 p.m., the border guards of Tajikistan blocked a section of Batken — Isfana road in Tort-Kocho area of Batken region. The border units of Kyrgyzstan, deployed on this section of the border in Batken region, switched to an enhanced mode of service. The both sides exchanged fire. The Tajik military used mortars and grenade launchers.

At night, the parties agreed on a complete ceasefire, withdrawal of additional forces and equipment from the border, opening of Batken — Isfana road for traffic and joint patrolling of border areas in order to prevent conflicts.
