Prosecutor General's Office opens criminal case on publication by Kaktus.media

Investigative actions are being carried out to give a legal assessment of the legality of the information published on the issue on Kaktus.media website. Press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Kyrgyzstan reported.

According to it, the prosecutor’s office of the Pervomaisky district initiated a criminal case under Article 407 «Propaganda of war, that is, dissemination of views, ideas or calls in any form with the aim of causing aggression of one country against another or unleashing a military conflict» of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic.

«On January 27, an article about the armed conflict in the border zone was published on Kaktus.media website. The article contains unreliable information that the servicemen of Kyrgyzstan were the first to shoot, thereby provoking Tajikistan. Currently, investigators of the Bishkek prosecutor’s office are conducting investigative actions to give a legal assessment of the legality of these actions,» the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Kyrgyz Republic notes.

Kaktus.media representatives confirmed the information. The journalists told 24.kg news agency that their management had been interrogated the day before.

A rally was held near the office of Kaktus.media on January 28. The protesters demanded to shut down the media outlet because the journalists published information from the Tajik website Asia Plus about the conflict on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border.
