An anti-terrorist operation regime was imposed in Turksib district of Almaty. TASS reports.
According to the media outlet, it will be in force from January 26 to January 27, 2022, five people have already been detained.
«Five leaders and members of an organized criminal group, who participated in the January 4-6 robbery of state institutions and commercial facilities in Almaty, have been detained during the anti-terrorist measures,» the report says.
Mass protests in Kazakhstan began on January 2, 2022. Residents of Zhanaozen and Aktau in Mangistau region opposed the increase in prices for liquefied gas, then the protests spread to other regions.
President of the republic Kassym-Jomart Tokayev introduced a state of emergency in the republic, dismissed the government and became the head of the Security Council. At his request, the CSTO countries sent peacekeeping forces to Kazakhstan. Scorpion special unit was sent to the republic from Kyrgyzstan.
The CSTO mission in Kazakhstan has been successfully completed.
