A new strain of coronavirus Omicron has been registered in 77 countries. Most likely, it is already present everywhere, but it just remains undetected. The Director-General of the World Health Organization Tedros Ghebreyesus said at a briefing. UN News reports.

He said that even though this strain, according to preliminary data, causes a less severe course of COVID-19, hospitals can again expect an influx of patients due to an increase in the number of infected. Tedros Ghebreyesus added that Omicron is spreading at a rate not seen in other variants.

It was reported on Tuesday that the first patient infected with the Omicron strain had died in Great Britain. Other deaths have not yet been reported.
