Akylbek Japarov meets with diplomatic corps, makes statement on Kumtor

The Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan met with representatives of the diplomatic corps, as well as with development partners. Press service of the government reported.

Akylbek Japarov made a statement.

According to him, Kyrgyzstan is a meeting point, a point of contact and interaction of all the great civilizations of the world.

The head of the Cabinet noted that he understands the worried looks of different countries of the world on Kyrgyzstan. After all, for more than 15 years the republic has been hit by political storms and cataclysms.

For 15 years, five presidents have changed in Kyrgyzstan and about 20 prime ministers.

«We are, perhaps, ahead of the rest of the planet on these indicators. You know all this perfectly well. But I want to share with you my understanding of what lies at the heart of these conflicts, what is the root cause of these endless revolutions. This is Kumtor,» Akylbek Japarov said.

In his opinion, speaking about modern Kyrgyzstan, about the current political situation, not a single self-respecting politician of the country, not a single real citizen can stand aside without indicating their position in relation to Kumtor.

Kumtor is the pain of Kyrgyzstan, its lost opportunities, its stolen wealth.

Akylbek Japarov

He considers Kumtor to be the root cause of all the negative things that have been happening to the republic for 30 years, because «the political elite of Kyrgyzstan stumbled exactly on it». They stumbled intellectually, lacking the experience in conducting economic negotiations and the knowledge necessary to draw up sophisticated contracts.

«But this is not so bad. The worst thing is that they broke down morally. I won’t make a big discovery if I say that almost every president of Kyrgyzstan, upon taking office, received his «share» from the looting of Kumtor. If this is so, then what we can say about other officials and civil servants of the country?! Everyone, seeing what was happening above, began to take everything where his hands reached. In other words, the fish began to stink at the head. It is in this that I see the root cause of all the troubles of our republic, because the people, who put justice above any other categories, could not tolerate this rampant vertically built corruption,» the head of the Cabinet of Ministers said.

At the same time, he reminded that throughout the entire epic of Kumtor, voices were always heard demanding the restoration of justice in the distribution of the wealth of the unique field. But it couldn’t be done. Kyrgyzstan was bound by enslaving treaties and the attitude of the international community to their violations.

«It was a vicious circle, a kind of Gordian knot that could not be untied, only cut. This became possible with the coming to power of the new leadership. We can state now that this state of affairs has come to an end. The diagnosis was established, the abscess was opened up, and the disease began to be treated. Yes, we understand that it is impossible to reduce all of Kyrgyzstan’s problems to the issue of Kumtor. But this was the focus of the disease, and the rest is already metastases that affected all spheres of the life of the state: education, tax, customs, medicine, energy. We began to eliminate these metastases,» Akylbek Japarov stressed.

He noted that President Sadyr Japarov pays special attention to the upbringing and education of the younger generation, stable and prosperous, who will build future Kyrgyzstan. The republic hopes for the help of the world community in this matter.

«Representatives of all confessions and civilizations of the world feel comfortable in our country. Xenophobia is at its lowest level. The state will not allow anyone to encroach on someone’s feelings, beliefs and religion. Kyrgyzstan is a crossroads on the Great Silk Road, where everyone who comes with pure thoughts is welcome. Kyrgyzstan wishes to remain such a crossroads in the future. Looking at you, we are waiting for understanding. As we admire your accomplishments, we learn from you. Respecting your values and traditions, we have the right to expect the same respect for ours,» the head of the Cabinet concluded.
