Border conflict: Sentences of three citizens of Tajikistan commuted

The Batken Regional Court changed verdicts for three citizens of Tajikistan involved in the April border conflict. Own sources told 24.kg news agency.

The judicial board commuted the sentences of Askar Yunusov and Abdurozik Kakhkhorov from life imprisonment to 20 years in prison. They were detained during the conflict and are being held in custody on the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic.

«Seven citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic were detained in Tajikistan after the April border conflict. They are accused of grave and especially grave crimes. Criminal cases against Kyrgyzstanis are considered by the courts of the Republic of Tajikistan,» the sources said.

In addition, the Batken Regional Court upheld the verdict for three Kyrgyzstanis who are charged with looting and illegal crossing of the state border.

Earlier, the Leilek District Court sentenced citizens of Tajikistan Askar Yunusov and Abdurozik Kakhkhorov to life imprisonment. The court also sentenced one Kyrgyzstani to 15 years in prison, and two more — to eight years and six months in prison. The latter were found guilty of looting, illegal manufacture of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and their analogues for the purpose of sale, as well as illegal crossing of the state border.

The border conflict took place on April 28 in the area of ​ Golovnoi water distribution point. It expanded to the use of army units and heavy equipment. At least 189 Kyrgyzstanis suffered in the conflict, 36 people were killed, including children. The Prosecutor General’s Office opened a criminal case under the article «Crime against Peace» of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic and assessed the actions of Tajikistan as a military invasion.
