Salaries of parliamentary deputies significantly cut in Kyrgyzstan

President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov signed a decree on measures to optimize the expenditures of the republican budget, increase the efficiency of the use of budgetary funds by state bodies and local government bodies. Presidential press service reported.

The purpose of the document is to implement basic measures to streamline expenditures from the republican budget.

Necessary measures have been taken to reduce the costs of maintaining the deputies of the Parliament, in particular, their official salaries have been cut:

  • Speaker of Parliament — 30,000 soms;
  • Deputy Speakers — 27,000 soms;
  • Leaders of parliamentary factions and chairmen of committees — 26,000 soms;
  • Deputies — 25,000 soms.

As the press service of the head of state explained, the decree «will lay the foundation for a new budgetary policy — reasonable budget expenditures by state bodies.»

«The mechanism laid down in the document to improve the situation in the budgetary sphere has been successfully applied in various countries during the period of difficult economic reforms. Public administration reforms were successfully carried out under the slogan «Live within means» in the Baltic countries, Eastern and Central Europe (Estonia, Latvia, Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary),» the decree says.

Earlier, the parliamentary deputies were paid compensation for housing. Provision of compensation and official cars is abolished, and the existing official apartments will be distributed among lawmakers who do not have own housing.
