A total of 11,006 cases of HIV have been registered in Kyrgyzstan. The Republican AIDS Center reports.

According to its data, 45 percent of new HIV cases in the country are diagnosed in the late stages of AIDS, when doctors are powerless to do anything.

«Even more alarming is the fact that in 2021, the sexual route of HIV transmission reached 81.3 percent, while the people who inject drugs account for 5 percent,» the center said.

It is worth noting that the World AIDS Day is marked on December 1. It was proclaimed by the WHO in 1988. The date was established with the aim of raising awareness of the AIDS epidemic caused by the spread of HIV infection, as well as a day to remember the victims of this disease. According to this organization, 7.7 million people in the world could die of AIDS in the next 10 years.

At least 700-800 cases of HIV infection are registered annually in Kyrgyzstan. The situation with the disease is becoming more and more complicated, as people more often contract the virus through sexual contact.
