Resident population of Kyrgyzstan increased by 8.1 percent, or 497,000 people from 2016 to 2020. Results of a study conducted by the National Statistical Committee say.
As of January 1, 2021, the population of the republic reached 6,637,000 people (as of January 1, 2017 — 6,140,000), 3,343,000 of them are women and 3,294,000 — men.
The population growth is registered due to excess of the number of births over the number of deaths with a negative balance of external migration, despite a slight decrease in the population growth rate.
The share of women in urban areas exceeds the share of men and amounts to 52.3 percent, and in rural areas, where the birth rate is higher, men, on the contrary, slightly predominate — 50.7 percent.
