Women can take only 18 percent of seats in the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan. Zulfiya Kochorbaeva, Executive Director of Social Technologies Agency, announced at a press conference at 24.kg news agency.
According to her, it is difficult to comply with 30 percent gender quota due to holding of elections under different systems.
«The gender quota applies only to 54 mandates that have been given to parties. When distributing mandates, parties will naturally take gender requirements into account. It also depends on the number of mandates that a party gets. For example, if a party receives six mandates, then women can be given only one. Another party can also distribute its six mandates in the same way. Thus, several women will lose their seats,» she said.
In general, 36 percent of candidates on party lists were women. «According to preliminary data, six leading parties have few women in the lists,» Zulfiya Kochorbaeva noted.
