Famous Ukrainian cardiac surgeon performs 7 surgeries in Kyrgyzstan

The famous Ukrainian cardiac surgeon Boris Todurov performed seven heart operations in Bishkek. The Research Institute of Heart Surgery and Organ Transplantation reported.

According to it, Boris Todurov is the director of the Heart Institute, as well as the author of the first heart transplant in Ukraine. On the basis of the Research Institute of Heart Surgery and Organ Transplantation, the cardiac surgeon, together with his team, performed complex operations on both children and adults with severe heart pathologies for three days. Specialists from Ukraine brought the necessary medical instruments and consumables with them.

According to Taalaibek Kudaiberdiev, director of the Research Institute of Heart Surgery and Organ Transplantation, the most difficult cases were selected for the surgeries.

«One of the patients is a young 18-year-old man with atrioventricular communication. It is a complex congenital heart disease characterized by a defect of the anatomy of the valves. After the operation, the young man is completely healthy and able to work. Boris Todurov also performed an operation according to the Ozaki method on a 4-year-old child with a congenital malformation of the aortic valve. The essence of the operation using this method is that a new valve is formed from the heart’s own tissues,» he said.

The Ukrainian heart surgeon himself noted that this was already his second visit to the republic. «This time we performed even more complex operations. We are glad that our patients trust us. There are real enthusiasts in Kyrgyzstan, who are trying to develop cardiac surgery, despite the difficult conditions in which they have to work. Therefore, we need to learn to appreciate these specialists,» the cardiac surgeon stressed.
