13 incidents occur on Kyrgyz-Tajik border since beginning of 2019

At least 13 incidents have occurred on the Kyrgyz-Tajik section of the border for 11 months of 2019. Official representative of the State Border Service Gulmira Borubaeva told at a press conference.

According to the head of the Main Border Protection Directorate of the State Border Service of the Kyrgyz Republic Kubatbek Jeenbaev, over 450 kilometers of border with Tajikistan remain disputed.

«The Intergovernmental Commission is dealing with issues of delimitation and demarcation, and the border agency cannot interfere in its work. But we, together with Tajik colleagues, developed interaction plans to minimize conflicts in the border areas. In particular, we jointly conduct classes for chiefs of border outposts, and explanatory work with residents in border areas. In addition, chiefs of outposts can contact colleagues from the neighboring state to quickly resolve incidents,» he said.

The latest incident on the Kyrgyz-Tajik section of the border occurred in Dahma area on December 16. The Tajik side began installation of a fence in disputed area.
