Leader of Ata Meken political party, Omurbek Tekebayev, explained why the 2020 electoral threshold should not exceed 3 percent today at a round table discussion, where amendments to the electoral law were discussed.
According to him, the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan should have at least 6-7 parties. The more political organizations represent the Parliament, the more stable the legislative branch will be that means there will be more chances to build a parliamentary republic. The politician also believes that inter-party blocs should be allowed to strengthen political parties.
The set threshold of 9 percent and the amount of pledge previously caused a lot of disputes. Experts called these points a failure and playing into the hands of oligarchs. Before summer recess, the Parliament approved a package of changes, including the indicated scandalous amendments. The President Sooronbai Jeenbekov signed the approved version.
