There are 10 patients in the intensive care unit of the Republican Clinical Infectious Diseases Hospital in Bishkek, two of them were put on mechanical ventilation. According to the Chief Physician of the medical institution Gulzhigit Aaliev, the most common cause of this serious condition is a late turning to doctors and self-treatment.
According to him, 50 patients with acute respiratory viral infections, mainly children, applied to the Republican Clinical Infectious Diseases Hospital yesterday, 24 people were hospitalized.
«I note that some parents, relatives of sick children keep them at home, engage in self-treatment, and they come to us with respiratory failure, cerebral edema and other complications. We are forced to place them in the intensive care unit,» he said.
Gulzhigit Aaliev added that the hospital was ready for the peak incidence of ARVI. In October, a second department was opened for such patients; medicines were purchased.
«The specificity of our hospital is that we have a year-round rise in incidence of various infections, and we are ready for this,» he said.
According to him, the Republican Clinical Infectious Diseases Hospital increased the number of doctors in its admission department at the expense of internal reserves, the second year medical residents were attracted. Four doctors are on duty in the evening, six or eight — during the day.
