Emilbek Kaptagaev appointed head of National Institute for Strategic Studies

Emilbek Kaptagaev was appointed a Director of the National Institute for Strategic Studies of Kyrgyzstan. The Information Support Department of the Government Office reported.

According to him, the corresponding order was signed by the Prime Minister Mukhammedkaly Abylgaziev.

Recall, Emilbek Kaptagaev headed the office of the interim government after the April events. He was later appointed a head of the Presidential Administration of the Kyrgyz Republic. In the summer of 2013, he became a governor of Issyk-Kul region.

During one of the rallies in Karakol in 2013, Emilbek Kaptagaev was taken hostage and nearly burned in a car. The former deputy of the Parliament Sadyr Japarov was found guilty in the case. Despite the fact that Emilbek Kaptagaev assured the court that the deputy had nothing to do with this incident, the ex-parliament member was convicted under Article 227 »Hostage-taking” of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic and sentenced to 11 years and 6 months in prison.
