Water supply system in 57 villages repaired in recent years not working

At least 386 villages in Kyrgyzstan have no clean water. Askarbek Toktoshev, Director of the Drinking Water Supply and Wastewater Development Department, said at a government meeting.

«There are 1,891 settlements in Kyrgyzstan, water supply system in 267 of them was built before 1960, and 386 villages have no water supply system. At least 35.5 percent of the population of rural areas are not provided with drinking water at a proper level. Especially problematic is the state of central water disposal facilities,» he said.

Askarbek Toktoshev noted that the water supply system in 57 villages, which was laid from 2001 to 2011, was not working.

«During this time, we repaired the water supply system in 533 villages for $ 70 million,» he said.

The Prime Minister Mukhammedkaly Abylgaziev noted that less than ten years have passed since the system was repaired, and it needed repairs again. There were facts when old pipes were brought and laid. There is no one who will be held responsible for such work now. All of them worked temporarily to serve their time. And we borrow money again to restore the system," the Prime Minister said.
