Queue at border. Roza Otunbayeva about Raiym-millionaire factor

Roza Otunbayeva wonders why the current president of Kyrgyzstan bypasses the issue of bringing to justice the former deputy chairman of the State Customs Service Raimbek Matraimov. The former head of state said this in response to questions from Azattyk Radio.

«For example, a difficult question between the former president and the current head of state now is Matraimov. People talk a lot about Matraimov. Jeenbekov himself says: you received yours in due time, why I should not ... Listen, if Matraimov is really a person from whom money may be extorted, then we definitely need to be cleansed,» said Roza Otunbayeva.

Today, our society is a society that requires accountability.

Answering the question of Azattyk why President Jeenbekov avoids bringing to justice issue, Roza Otunbayeva answered that she also asked this question.

«I would call it a public demand. Moreover, I will tell you that the leadership of Russia and Kazakhstan says on the border issue: «There are such Matraimovs who are enriched at customs and the border, and they share their wealth. And why should we go against the rules and just watch? The Matraimov’s factor, if necessary, adversely affects relations between the states,» the ex-president summed up.

Raiymbek Matraimov was reinstated as Deputy Chairman of the Customs Service by a court decision. Previously, he was removed from office with the wording «the incompatibility of his activities with the decisions and policies pursued by the political leadership» by then Prime Minister Sapar Isakov.

«Raiymbek Matraimov is an experienced employee who has worked in customs for more than 20 years,» the current chairman of the service, Almaz Onolbekov, commented on the possible reinstatement of the ex-deputy on January 28, 2019.

Recall, congestion formed on the Kyrgyz-Kazakh border on March 19. Kazakhstan introduced additional checks by the veterinary and tax authorities. A week later, officials said that work on resolving the situation was at the level of the two governments.

Only on April 4, deputies of the Parliament decided to invite officials and hear information about the problem.
