People's Kurultai demands to check wealth of ex-President Almazbek Atambayev

Representatives of the People’s Kurultai demand to check the wealth of the ex-president of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev. Social activist Emilbek Kaptagaev stated at a conference Consolidation of Power and its Consequences.

He noted that the statement of the former head of state about sale of business in Turkey required proof.

«We need to check when and how this money came to the Kyrgyz Republic. In addition, Atambayev more than once boasted about rich friends who donated money to the country. We must investigate where the money comes from. Are they related to drug trafficking or other criminal schemes? And how did Almazbek Atambayev thank his rich friends?» said Emilbek Kaptagaev.

According to him, in this case, representatives of the People’s Kurultai are waiting for decisive steps from the Parliament and the Prosecutor General’s Office.

«Atambayev’s case is not connected with his opposition to Jeenbekov. Strengthening the foundation of statehood and ensuring work of the branches of government within their powers depend on bringing Atambayev to justice. Now political mafia of Atambayev opened its face and began to sabotage. The proof is the decision of the Constitutional Chamber on lifting immunity from the ex-president. We are waiting for decisive steps from the Prosecutor General and the Parliament,» Emilbek Kaptagaev added.
