3.8 times less food can be purchased for salary in Bishkek than in Moscow

Bishkek has the lowest prices for potatoes, butter and lamb among the capitals of the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union. The National Statistical Committee of Kyrgyzstan presented such data based on the results of February 2019.

The maximum average consumer prices for basic foodstuffs in February 2019 compared with the other capitals of EEU member states were registered in Moscow. At the same time, in February of 2019, the maximum average consumer price for potatoes ($ 0.44) was recorded in Moscow, and the minimum ($ 0.2) — in Bishkek.

The minimum average consumer prices for mutton ($ 4.14) in February 2019 were also registered in Bishkek, and for pasteurized milk ($ 0.63) — in Minsk.

In February 2019, an average consumer price for pasteurized milk in Bishkek was higher than that registered in Astana — by 10.8 percent and Minsk — by 14.9 percent, beef — by 3.2 percent and 12.6 percent.

In addition, in February 2019, the average prices for bread from first-grade flour in Bishkek exceeded their level in Astana by 36.7 percent and eggs — by 19.4 percent.

A comparative analysis of the purchasing power of an average monthly salary in the capitals of some EEU countries shows that in February 2019 the least amount of food could be bought for an average salary exactly in Bishkek.

For example, 3.8 times less food can be purchased for an average salary in Bishkek than in Moscow.
