U.S. Government grants more than 100,000 books to schools of Kyrgyzstan

U.S. Government granted 110,257 children’s books to 900 public schools in Kyrgyzstan. Press service of the U.S. Embassy in the Kyrgyz Republic reported.

These are 32 types of books in Kyrgyz and Russian languages ​​- fairy tales, children’s stories, poems, books for the development of mathematical literacy. They were published as part of USAID Time to Read project.

The books are categorized by difficulty using an innovative assessment tool. This approach helps teachers, parents and librarians to select reading materials that best match the age and grade of students.

This is the first batch of 1.2 million books that USAID plans to publish and hand over to schools in Kyrgyzstan until 2020.

The USAID Time to Read project is a four-year program with a budget of $ 9.9 million, implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Science of Kyrgyzstan. The main objective of the project is to improve the reading skills of elementary school students across the country.
