Border conflict: Vice Prime Minister Zhenish Razakov continues negotiations

Vice Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Zhenish Razakov continues negotiations with the Tajik side to resolve the situation on the state border. Government’s Executive Office of Kyrgyzstan reports.

Bilateral negotiations of the parties headed by the Vice Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic Zhenish Razakov and the Deputy Prime Minister of Tajikistan Azim Ibrokhim reportedly took place the day before from 19.30 to 20.40 in Golovnoy section in Kok-Tash village of Ak-Sai rural area, Batken district.

All the most pressing issues of the joint agenda were discussed, and at the moment they are continued by the representatives of the parties.

Yesterday at about 21.00, residents of Ak-Sai and Kok-Tash villages were transported to Batken. They were placed in the building of professional lyceum 57, as well as in one of the residential buildings. Their security is ensured by police officers.

Local authorities, together with law enforcement agencies, continue to conduct awareness-raising activities among the local population.

A conflict occurred between the residents of neighboring villages on the border of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan on March 13 due to start of construction by the Kyrgyz side of Ak-Sai — Tamdyk bypass road.

On March 14, Kyrgyzstanis blocked the road from the Tajik enclave Vorukh and began to throw stones at local residents. According to the Tajik side, «in their turn, in order to defend themselves, unarmed Tajiks responded.» Kyrgyz border guards, the State Committee for National Security of Tajikistan stressed, opened fire resulting in the death of one citizen of the Republic of Tajikistan, two were injured.
