Prime ministers of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan discuss border situation

Prime Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Mukhammedkaly Abylgaziev and Tajikistan Kohir Rasulzoda discussed by telephone situation at the border and measures taken to resolve the border incident. The Information Support Department of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.

The parties expressed mutual readiness to resolve the situation and take measures to stabilize the situation in the border areas of the two states, taking into account traditionally friendly and good-neighborly relations between the countries.

The heads of government noted joint work of state bodies of the two countries and agreed to conduct a joint investigation of the incident and take measures to prevent the situation on the border from escalating.

«Heads of the competent authorities of the two states and the local authorities are working to resolve the situation and ensure stability in the border areas,» the department said.

The prime ministers also discussed intensification of the activities of an intergovernmental commission on demarcation and delimitation of the state border.

Kyrgyz Deputy Prime Minister Zhenish Razakov and Deputy Prime Minister of Tajikistan Ibrohim Azim are at the scene of the incident to coordinate work on stabilization of the situation.

Recall, conflict occurred on Kyrgyzstan-Tajikistan border in Ak-Sai village of Batken region on March 13. According to preliminary data, citizens of Tajikistan wanted to hinder construction of Ak-Sai — Tamdyk road. Kyrgyz border guards prevented this. Residents of the Kyrgyz village also gathered there, people began to throw stones at each other. In the evening, the border guards managed to bring the conflict under control, but, after a while, the situation became tense again.
