World Bank draws up new project on development of regions of Kyrgyzstan

As a part of a new partnership strategy, the World Bank draws up a new project on development of the regions of Kyrgyzstan. World Bank Regional Director for Central Asia Lilia Burunciuc said at a meeting with the President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbai Jeenbekov.

«Support of the World Bank in the implementation of strategic goals and upcoming reforms is very important for our republic. Regional development issues are determined as priority in the partnership program of the bank with the Kyrgyz Republic, namely development of industry in the regions, creation of jobs, provision with enterprises engaged in processing, sorting, storage, packaging, sale of agricultural products,» the head of state stressed.

The new partnership strategy of the World Bank with Kyrgyzstan has been prepared taking into account the main development priorities of the country stipulated in strategic documents.

«The analysis was conducted to determine the basic indicators of the regions. At the first stage, we intend to focus on Osh and Batken regions. The project is aimed at solving a complex of tasks, in particular, issues of improving the quality of public services, digitalization, improvement of water supply, roads and infrastructure. At the second stage, the project will cover the rest regions of the republic,» she said.

In addition, the parties discussed issues of reforming the public procurement system, development and improvement of regional infrastructure, introduction of digital technologies, clean drinking water supply, improvement of the country’s financial sector and development of energy industry.
