Corrupt practices by some judges continue in the judicial system of the country. The President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbai Jeenbekov announced today at the 11th Congress of Judges of Kyrgyzstan.
The head of state noted that there were individuals, who did not deserve the high title of a judge.
«I’m far from the thought that all of you are not working well, but as they say, a rotten apple spoils the barrel. There are individuals among you whose actions the public is dissatisfied with. It is a pity when representatives of the judicial branch, who are obliged to defend the law, commit illegal acts by themselves.
There are cases when judges, pursuing personal self-serving goals, turn a blind eye to the severity of a criminal’s actions, soften responsibility, and distort criminal actions,» he said.
The president cited as an example a decision of a judge from Osh region, when a foreigner, who was caught red handed with 14 kilograms of hashish, was softened punishment and amnestied.
Sooronbai Jeenbekov added that an investigation of the case was underway.
«Drug addiction is a problem not only for Kyrgyzstan, but for the whole world. Drug related crimes fall into the category of serious crimes. Therefore, such actions of judges making such decisions are actions against national interests,» the president said.
Sooronbai Jeenbekov also noted importance of the courts during investments into the country.
«Attracting of investment also depends on the credibility of the government and the judicial system. There are cases, when judges take away property from foreign citizens,» Sooronbai Jeenbekov added.
