Kyrgyz farmers ask to ban import of apples from Kazakhstan

Farmers asked the Ministry of Agriculture of Kyrgyzstan to ban import of apples from Kazakhstan. A farmer Altynbek Abdrasulov voiced such a proposal at a meeting with the Minister of Agriculture Nurbek Murashev.

According to him, Kazakhstan unreasonably imposes a ban on the import of Kyrgyz products.

«They banned us from selling apples, but at the same time they sell their products in our markets. Why can’t Kyrgyzstan write a note to Kazakhstan?» he asked.

The farmer noted that the official ban on the import of fruits and vegetables led only to an increase in smuggling of products to Kazakhstan.

«We still sell apples but now smuggle them,» he said.

The Agriculture Minister Nurbek Murashev said that negotiations with Kazakhstan were underway, but he did not answer whether Kyrgyzstan could impose a counter ban on the import of Kazakh products.
