At least 10,574 people are serving their sentences in prisons of Kyrgyzstan. The International Center for Prison Studies (ICPS) presented such data.
According to the center’s statistics, there are 133,462 prisoners in Central Asia. Least of all of them are in Tajikistan — 9,317 people.
Uzbekistan is leading in the number of prisoners — 43,900. Kazakhstan has 39,219 prison inmates. Turkmenistan takes the 3rd place with 30,452 prisoners.
In connection with the entry into force of new versions of the Criminal Code and the Criminal Procedure Code in Kyrgyzstan, term of imprisonment of 460 convicts may be changed.
