Kyrgyzstan will be able to regain assets stolen as a result of corruption and embezzlement by the former regime of Kurmanbek and Maxim Bakievs. A statement by the governments of the Kyrgyz Republic and the United States on the repatriation of Kyrgyz assets stolen during the former regime of Kurmanbek Bakiev was signed today by the Finance Minister of Kyrgyzstan Baktygul Jeenbaeva and the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs Alice Wells.

The funds were found in the United States during criminal prosecution of Evgeny Gurevich for insider trading. The U.S. Department of Justice granted an application for remittance. At least $ 4.5 million out of $6 million subject to confiscation were found. The money will be transferred to the account of the government of the Kyrgyz Republic.
