Paralympians of Kyrgyzstan get into difficult situation, ask to change law

The Kyrgyz National Paralympic Committee (KNPC) asks for amendments to the Law on Paralympic Sports and opening of a Directorate for Disabled Sports. The committee president Bakyt Isakov said at a press conference in 24.kg news agency.

According to him, there are two Paralympic Committees in Kyrgyzstan. One of them is internationally recognized, and the second is supported by the state.

Our organization was established in 1994 as a Disabled Sports Association and was tied to the National Olympic Committee. Then we gained international recognition.

Vice President of KNPC Toktobek Aidaraliev

The second organization was created in 2004, but nothing was heard about it for a long time.

«When the law on Paralympic sports was prepared, they woke up. The document provides funding — about 13 million soms. The second committee has achieved entry of its name into the law. But the money is not directly given to the committees, but is allocated for support, holding competitions etc.,» he noted.

Bakyt Isakov said that they asked to remove the specific name.

«We have hearing impaired committee, special committee (with mental disabilities). They all have to get into the law. We developed this law, and it was turned against us. It states that Kyrgyzstan represents the Paralympic Committee, and we want it to indicate that it is represented by organizations that have international recognition,» he told.

Bakyt Isakov added that sports officials throw sand in the wheels of the committee.

«The General Assembly of the Asian Paralympic Committee took place recently. Kyrgyzstan is represented by one delegate with the right to vote — President of the Kyrgyz National Paralympic Committee Bakyt Isakov. But the deputy director for Non-Olympic Sports, Aibek Bakasov, tried to get to the meeting. Such behavior put our country not in the best light. The scandalous situation was voiced from the rostrum of the General Assembly. The official must not be allowed to disgrace the country,» he said.
