Criminal cases on child abuse rarely reach Supreme Court of Kyrgyzstan

Criminal cases on child abuse rarely reach the Supreme Court of Kyrgyzstan. The judge of the Supreme Court of the Kyrgyz Republic, Keneshbek Toktomambetov, stated at a round table discussion.

According to him, the prosecutor’s office does not appeal against the decisions of the first and second judicial instances, the parents — all the more.

«Sexual abuse of children was somehow recognized as an offence of minor gravity. This means that if there is a counter statement from the parents in the case, the proceedings are terminated. Often, sexual abuse cases end in reconciliation. One of them reached the Supreme Court. Parents came to us with a counter statement. The victim is a six-year-old girl. We refused and left the decision of the previous instances in force,» Keneshbek Toktomambetov told.
